A McKenzie friend is someone who can provide moral and emotional support when someone is representing themselves in court. This can be an especially daunting and worrying time, as its not something we do every day.  When you are going through a court process, it can often have been quite a wait to get to that stage, we are here to support you when you most need it. A McKenzie friend cannot give legal advice, but at a fraction of the cost of a solicitor, can help minimize the costs during the application processes, and whether you choose to represent yourself, or employ a solicitor for the court hearings is down to you. We are able to support you in court, but we are not allowed to speak to the judge on your behalf or challenge the other party.

We can help with divorce applications, financial remedy applications, non molestation orders, occupancy orders and child arrangements.

We are not legally qualified, therefore cannot offer legal advice, however where a solicitor cannot be afforded, McKenzie friends can prove invaluable, as a shoulder to lean on, to encourage and support, to double check you are going down the right lines and at the right time, as a second pair of eyes to glance over documents and court orders.

We can take notes whilst both sides are talking, as often, you are too 'in the moment' to take everything in,  which has proven to be invaluable so that nothing is missed.

However, as mentioned before, we are not able to speak on your behalf nor challenge the other party.
